CHAIRMAN of Tourism Snowy Mountains, David Sheldon, has been appointed to also chair Australian Regional Tourism Network (ARTN) effective immediately. ARTN is the peak national body for regional tourism in Australia.
ARTN Directors elected him to the role. ARTN represents regional tourism and acts as a hub for collaboration, cooperation, strategy development, knowledge sharing and networking.
On behalf of its members, ARTN advocates the fostering of sustainable regional development and amplifies key messages to government, industry sectors, researchers, educators and the public.
Mr Sheldon was appointed to the board of ARTN in August 2011. His priorities at ARTN will include advancing tourism as a priority for government, ensuring appropriate funding for regional tourism management and marketing, developing stronger support for regional tourism product and experience development, generating a process to gather and share research-based knowledge, and creating an environment where product innovation, development and maintenance can flourish.
Mr Sheldon has many years experience as a board member of local and regional tourism organisations. He is firmly committed to evaluating and developing tourism portfolios at both State and Federal levels and has been an active ARTN member for a number of years.
He is also chair of Tourism Snowy Mountains and is committed to growing the visitor economy across the entire region year round.
