Rocky Plains beats Berridale in historic clash

The Berridale Tennis courts were packed to the rafters on Sunday with the annual Berridale vs Rocky Plain tennis match held in brilliant sunshine.

With each side fielding a team of eight men and eight women there was a full day of competition to get through.

This is an historic event and while fiercely contested, always a fun social occasion.

First up were the ladies and men's double matches and by lunchtime it was obvious that the teams were very evenly matched.

It was a family affair with the Hedger clan making up the bulk of the Rocky Plain side and Rebecca and Robert even brought their gorgeous new baby daughter, Indiana, along with her sister, Chloe, to cheer them on.

The Berridale Team consisted of Monday morning players, Bill and Fay Smits, Hermann and Mary Obermaier, Robyn Woodhouse, Pat McPhie and Margie Wade along with regular Berridale competition players, Wendy Bruce, Kerrie Evans, and Anthony Wellsmore.

Berridale had to borrow a few extra players from Cooma and thanks to Ken Miners, Mal Pearce and Maurie Hore for their contribution.

After a sumptuous barbecue cooked by Phil Reid and assisted by the guys, it was back into the mixed doubles matches which were also pretty close.

There was a large crowd of supporters and the final victory went to the Rocky Plain Team by 26 sets to 22 with the total games being 153 to 144.
