Dragon season starts on Lake Jindabyne

Everyone is welcome to join the Lake Jindabyne Dragon Boat Club - the Snow Dragons - this Saturday morning for the "Season Launch" and the club is looking for new paddlers and sweeps for the upcoming dragon boat season.

All equipment is provided and there's no charge for having a few goes - we even have life jackets.

The day starts at the Sailing Club beach at 9.30 on Saturday and there'll be a sausage sizzle on as well, so bring the family and any water toys you want to try out - dust off that stand-up board and the kayak.

Snow Dragons President Robyn Waddell is keen to get on the water.

"We've got a great season to look forward to, and so much water to play on" she laughed.

"Snow Dragons are the NSW Country Champions and so we're keen to defend that title at the Nationals in Sydney in March.

"Plus we've got the wonderful Flowing Festival in Jindabyne on February 16-17, and lots of social and racing paddling sessions on the lake."

The Snow Dragons are on the water three times a week. Saturday 8.30am is reserved for social paddling, which is a light work out but gets everyone paddling in the beautiful early morning light on the lake. The crew then head out for breakfast.

Two week-day sessions (Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30pm) give paddlers the chance to really build up fitness and skills, and everyone has a go on the ERG machine, which can record paddlers' fitness levels and get them ready for serious competition.

Open morning on Saturday from 9.30 - 11am at the Sailing Club Beach. Bring shorts and a tee, hat, sunscreen, water bottle, shoes that can get wet.

If you can't make this Saturday, you are welcome at any of our training sessions to have a try.
