SES Alpine search capability enhanced

THE STATE Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Michael Gallacher, visited Perisher to officially present seven new Artic Cat/Bearcat 570 XT snowmobiles and three double snowmobile trailers to the SES. They were bought to enhance the Alpine search capability of the SES volunteers.

Mr Gallacher was joined at the official handover ceremony by NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Steven Pearce, Assistant Commissioner Greg Newton and many of the volunteer Alpine operators from the SES units based in Jindabyne, Tumut, Queanbeyan, Khancoban and Tumbarumba.

Also present at Perisher were representatives of the NSW Police Force which is the lead agency for Alpine search operations in which the SES plays a critical part.

The NSW State Emergency Service has acquired the seven Artic Cat/Bearcat 570 XT snowmobiles and three trailers at a total project cost of $130,000 from funding directly provided by the NSW government.

The new snowmobiles have been pressed into immediate service this winter and are currently being operationally tested and run in.
