THE Moonbah Hut in Jindabyne has been announced as a finalist in the 2014 Stayz Group Holiday Rental Awards in the national category of 'Best for Outdoor'.

Winning the state award for 'Best for Outdoor' in 2013, Moonbah Hut owner Brett Smith said he was overwhelmed when he found out his hut had become a finalist in the national category this year.

"It's just a nice feeling that so many people have enjoyed the place, I am extremely grateful," Mr Smith said.

Located off the Moonbah River, the cosy granite hut is one of two huts located on the property which become a haven for couples, families and fishermen all throughout the year.

"I used to come and stay on the property when I was a kid and then in 1990 the property got divided and sold off, so I bought a block and started to build the Moonbah Hut and the Moonbah River Hut," Mr Smith explained.

With visitors coming in to stay from all around the world, it's no surprise that this romantic getaway has only been free for eleven days in the past year.

"I've had guests from 33 different countries so far and about 30 to 40 marriage proposals at the hut. I've had no turndowns as of yet so that's pretty good!" Mr Smith chuckled.

"A lot of couples come back for their anniversaries so we meet up before their stay, they're like good friends now."

The winners of the 2014 Stayz Group Holiday Rental Awards will be announced later on Thursday (today).
