JINDABYNE Central School (JCS) will attempt to defend its NSW primary school boys' and girls' snowsports champion titles at this week's Interschools state championships at Thredbo.
It would be the seventh consecutive year JCS would claim the coveted girls' champion trophy and only the second straight year it would hold the boys' title after finally winning it back last year following a decade-long absence.
The JCS girls' team has held the prestigious title since 2008 and its goal at this week's NSW interschools snowsports championships is to make it seven in a row while the boys' also plan on retaining their silver for the school trophy cabinet.
JCS will send a total of 69 teams to the NSW Interschools championships at Thredbo starting on Thursday, competing in alpine giant slalom, skier cross, moguls, snowboard giant slalom and snowboard cross against schools from all around the state.
JCS dominated the recent ACT-Southern NSW interschools snowsports championships, which doubles as the qualifying event for the state championships, with 16 students taking out individual first place and an extraordinary 44 teams awarded podium finishes.
The school's students had some impressive results on the weekend heading into the state championships, with a number of JCS students winning their age divisions at the Blue Cow Cup held at Perisher.
Six-year-old Hugh Buttling took out the under eight division in the giant slalom, 10-year-old Benjamin Wynn just edged out fellow JCS student Joey Steggall in the under 12s, 14-year-old Sarah Lambert easily won the under 16s and Charlotte Murphy was more than six seconds ahead of her closest rivals in the under 18s over the two-run race.
In Sunday's skier cross event six-year-old Bayley Sadler won the under eight division, Alize Steggall claimed first place in the under 10s, Josie Baff won gold in the under 12s, Jesse Quinn won the under 14s, Sarah Lambert again claimed victory in the under 16s as did Charlotte Murphy in the under 18s.
The Subaru NSW State Interschools Championships will be held at Thredbo starting on Thursday August 28 with the snowboard giant slalom (all divisions), snowboard cross (all divisions) and division four and five moguls.
Divisions four and five skier cross championships will be held on Friday along with moguls divisions one, two and three.
Skier cross divisions one, two and three will be on Saturday combined with alpine divisions four and five followed by alpine divisions one, two and three on Sunday.
