A Country Link service for the Snowy Mountains is one step closer to becoming reality with a Parliamentary committee recommending service stops at Jindabyne and Berridale.
The final report from the Legislative Assembly's Inter-Regional Transport Inquiry has been tabled in Parliament and recommends that "Transport for NSW re-route the NSW TrainLink Southern Coach services to incorporate stops at stops at Jindabyne and Berridale."
"This is a very important milestone in securing a CountryLink service for the Snowy Mountains which has been my top transport priority in the Monaro electorate," according to local Member John Barilaro.
"I'd like to thank the community for their ongoing support; I feel we are very close to a positive result for our community.
"I know that the abundance of submissions to the Inquiry from local businesses, organisations and individuals has had a huge impact on the Committee members. I am very confident that the Report's recommendations will be a catalyst for Government action.
"There has been a lot of work behind the scenes over the last few months to try to obtain funding for this service, despite the difficult budgetary situation."
The committee also noted in its report the avid and active interest shown by Mr Barilaro on this issue.
