Sydney to Hobart trip - over land

A team of 111 men and women are about to take on the 'Sydney to Hobart'. Not by sea.

For the first time Tour de Cure's Signature Tour will cycle 1,576km in 10 days through Adaminaby and over mountains that equate to climbing Mount Everest twice.

Why? They want to find a cure for cancer and help prevent it.

Motivated by the statistic that "one in three cancer cases are preventable"*Tour de Cure's team ensure they visit each community on route to share how men, women and children can make healthy life choices to help prevent cancer.

Each day the Team visit primary schools, local businesses and open invitations to their community dinners to share Tour de Cure's 'Be Fit; Be Healthy; Be Happy' cancer message.

Tour de Cure also donates $5,000 each evening to vital local cancer work that supports our Australian communities.

This year Tour de Cure's Signature Tour will leave from the TV program Sunrise's Breakie Central. Kochie will cheer off Mark Beretta for his fifth Tour de Cure Signature Tour. Berett's, along with the team of 111 riders, support crew and guest riders will visit Bundanoon, Canberra, Adaminaby, Corryong, Wangaratta, Eildon and Melbourne before going overnight on the Spirit of Tasmania.

After docking in Devonport the team will cycle the remaining three days through Launceston, Swansea and arrive in Hobart on Sunday April 6.

"It was my family that wanted me to commit to my fifth Tour de Cure. We know the difference the money raised by Tour de Cure is making. I can ride a bike, but I can't look down a microscope and find a cure for cancer. That's the job of the brilliant professors and researchers we fund," according to participant and sports reporter Mark Beretta.

"The highlight for me is meeting great people along the way and hearing their stories of surviving cancer. Also talking about the battles they have on their hands right now, as well as meeting the thousands of school kids that we visit. We get to support Australians, to spread the word on how we can all help prevent cancer and to work our way closer to finding a cure. What could be better?"

Australia's corporates get behind each stage of Tour de Cure's Signature Tour. Corporate Partners include Optus, Woolworths, Lexus, Sunrise, Harvey Norman, CBA, Vittoria, Huawei, Life Technologies, Spirit of Tasmania and Tag Heuer. Tour de Cure's partners not only want to find a cure for cancer but are committed to sharing the Tour de Cure cancer message 'Be Fit; Be Healthy' Be Happy' with their organisations.
