Local swimmers succeed at carnival

SIXTEEN members of the Jindabyne Amateur Swimming Club travelled to Cooma on Sunday to compete in the Cooma Swimming Carnival.

The swimmers were Ian Grant, Chelsea Tapply, Jonty Tapply, Luke Robinson, Hannah Robinson, Ella Burton, Nicholas Coleman, Melanie Coleman, Anissa Porter, Sophie Porter, Jesse Paske, Sophie Paske, Ashling Condon, Teagan Condon, Brock Freeburn, Ruby Freeburn.

For a lot of the swimmers it was their first ever carnival and they all achieved above and beyond expectations.

Many of the swimmers brought along their cheer squads with mum, dad, brothers, sisters and grandparents cheering them on from the pool deck, and success was always imminent.

All of the Jindabyne swimmers came home with either a medal or having bettered their personal best times for at least one event.

Results are as follows:

Nicholas Coleman (boys 8 years): 25m Freestyle (1st), 25m Butterfly (1st), 25m Breaststroke (2nd), 25m Backstroke (1st).

Jesse Paske (girls 7 years): 25m Freestyle (3rd), 25m Backstroke (2nd). Ashling Condon (girls 7 years): 25m Freestyle (2nd), 25m Butterfly (2nd), 25m Breaststroke (3rd). Teagan Condon (girls 7 years): 25m Freestyle (1st), 25m Breaststroke (2nd), 25m Backstroke (3rd). Sophie Porter (girls 8 years): 25m Freestyle (1st), 25m Butterfly (1st), 25m Breaststroke (1st), 25m Backstroke (1st). Brock Freeburn (boys 9 years): 50m Freestyle (3rd), 50m Butterfly (2nd), 50m Breaststroke (3rd), 25m Backstroke (1st). Ruby Freeburn (girls 7 years): 25m Butterfly (3rd). Luke Robinson (boys 10 years): 50m Freestyle (1st), 50m Butterfly (3rd), 100m Freestyle (1st), 50m Backstroke (1st), 200m Medley (1st), 200m Breaststroke (2nd). (Luke also swam in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke as an exhibition swimmer due to his times being good enough to qualify him to swim these events in the NSW State Championships). Luke's time in the 50m Freestyle qualified him in the 10 years & under dash for cash where he fought valiantly and placed a close 2nd. Chelsea Tapply (girls 10 years): 50m Butterfly (3rd), 100m Backstroke (2nd), 100m Medly (2nd), 100m Freestyle (2nd), 50m Backstroke (2nd). Ian Grant (boys 12 years): 50m Freestyle (3rd), 50m Breaststroke (3rd), 50m Freestyle (1st), 50m Backstroke (3rd), 200m Medley (2nd). Ella Burton (girls 12 years): 50m Freestyle (1st), 100m Backstroke (2nd), 200m Medley (2nd). Ella also swam in the 100m Butterfly as an exhibition swimmer due to her times being good enough to qualify her to swim this event in the NSW State Championships.

Jonty Tapply (boys 15 years): 50m Freestyle 1(1st), 50m Butterfly (1st), 50m Breaststroke (1st), 100m Freestyle (1st).

Jonty also qualified for the boys 11 years and over dash for cash and swam brilliantly to win the race and receive $50 cash for his effort. Melanie Coleman (girls 13 years): 50m Freestyle (3rd), 50m Butterfly (3rd), 100m Medley (2nd), 100m Freestyle (3rd). Hannah Robinson (girls 13 years): 50m Freestyle (1st), 50m Breaststroke (2nd), 50 Backstroke (1st).

Next weekend will see Ian Grant, Sophie Nichols, Luke Robinson, Hannah Robinson, Jonty Tapply and Chelsea Tapply travel to Ulladulla for the South Eastern Swimming Association Area Championships and Speedo Sprint Heats. The club wishes all the swimmers the best of luck and know they will do themselves and the club proud.

Swimming will also be on this Friday with the following strokes - Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly, so see you there.
