Wanted: new chief for tourism body

Tourism Snowy Mountains (TSM) is looking for a new chief executive following the resignation of Peter Sheppard.

While a search is undertaken, Board chair Wayne Hart will act in the role. It is unclear at this stage how wide the search for a replacement will be.

Mr Sheppard has been in the role for less than two years and is widely recognised as bringing a new dimension and higher profile to the strategies and activities of TSM.

In a letter to TSM members, Mr Sheppard urged them to adopt a united approach with focused product development and marketing strategies.

"I strongly urge your support of TSM for the job it is endeavouring to do in enhancing the visitor economy of the whole region," he said.

"Your regional tourism organisation is a not-for-profit, membership based entity and receives no funding from federal or state governments - so your support is vital."

He said the potential of both and summer tourism in the region was "extraordinary."

Mr Sheppard plans on taking some recreation leave before deciding his future.
