The first day of term at Snowy Mountains Grammar School has signalled a new era with the 2013-14 Senior and Prefect Induction Ceremony.
The new student leadership team was officially installed in a moving ceremony before all students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Parents and grandparents attended the event and were proud to hear their children being described by Principal Andrew Bell as mature, capable, respectful, enthusiastic, courageous and engaging young adults.
Mr Bell urged the prefects to formulate their own meaning of leadership and to have their own vision.
"You can't blow an uncertain trumpet," he said.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world - it is the only thing that ever has."
In a symbolic gesture, Mr Bell invited students from Years 4, 5 & 6 to the stage to ask some important reflective questions for the SMGS seniors to consider.
The student leaders confidently answered "we will" to a number of questions regarding everything from kindness, respect and support to modelling good behaviour and wearing the uniform with pride.
School captains Fenneke Bannister and Mitchell Harrison spoke of the privilege of taking on the roles.
