Berridale business in line for award

A Berridale business has been shortlisted in NSW Fair Trading's state-wide I Love My Local Business competition.

A happy customer nominated local design label Elle Hopwood because "it is an amazing local label that designs beautiful outfits."

Nicola Johnson said, "Elle Hopwood makes to order and is kind enough to teach my daughter how to sew. The art of sewing is almost lost in schools and I love the fact that, though very busy, she will take the time to teach. Did I mention she donates her time to sew the outfits for the local dance company's end of year production? She is worthy of applause."

Elle Hopwood is one of just 25 NSW local businesses to be shortlisted in the competition, where consumers nominate their favourite local business via a 60 words or less entry on the Fair Trading Facebook page.

Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe is now inviting people to vote on the shortlist at:

"The entry with the most votes wins $250, the People's Choice award," Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe said.

Voting closes midnight October 25. The person who nominated the business receives the prize and the business is promoted on the Fair Trading Facebook page and website.

An independent judging panel will decide five other winners from across the state. Winners will be announced in early November.

"The competition is a great way to show how Fair Trading supports all aspects of local communities, including local businesses," he said.

"While we sometimes have cause to name and shame businesses doing the wrong thing, this competition celebrates good business practice in NSW."
