Thieves raid historic Mountain hut

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is appealing for information about the theft of a hand built table and benches from Sawyers Hut, also known as The Rest House.

Sawyers Hut is located on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Adaminaby and Yarrangobilly Caves in Kosciuszko National Park.

NPWS Ranger Elouise Peach said it would have taken at least two people to unbolt and remove the timber furniture.

"We are extremely disappointed in the unscrupulous characters who have removed the able and benches from Sawyers Hut, and I hope people will come forward with information," Ms Peach said.

"This hut, like many in Kosciuszko National Park, is a great place to stop and enjoy a break and it was appalling to find its main furniture stolen.

"Sawyers Hut was rebuilt in 2008 after being damaged in the 2003 fires, and the missing furniture was locally made and installed for all visitors to enjoy.

"If you have information please call NPWS on 6947 7000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and your call will be treated with strict confidentiality."
