Ski sensation - and she's just 6

She is just six-years-old but already Cassie Nicholls is showing she is a force to be reckoned with on the ski slopes.

The year 1 Snowy Mountains Grammar School student recently finished 13th from a field of 42 in skier cross at the Australian National Interschool's skiing at Mt Buller in Victoria.

More amazingly, the youngest member of the Snowy Mountains Grammar School snow sport team to represent their school at a National level, was racing against girls up to 10-years-old.

While she placed 13th individually, the Snowy Mountains Grammar School team placed sixth in Australia for division 5 girls skier cross.

The successful results follow a string of big races for the young skier.

At just four-years-old Cassie won the Mini Mite Cup for Perisher. The following year she placed second in the Perisher winter sports club skier cross race, and won the race this year.

She came second in the Perisher winter sports club GS (giant slalom race), placed individually 10th in the ACT Southern NSW Interschools regional skier cross race and eighth the individually in the GS race in division 5.

In the States Interschools races she raced as a individual and placed 8th in the skier cross race division 5.

Cassie has been very lucky in the past three years to be coached by Kate Alouker from the Perisher winter sports program, and also this year her private coach Rebecca Vokaty who also works as a private instructor in Japan.

Rebecca joined Cassie down in Mt Buller for extra training and support.Cassie has another three years in this division 5 as she is only in year 1 and competes in divison 5 until the end of year 4.
