Illawong Lodge in Kosciuszko National Park has been included on the Lonely Planet's 1000 Ultimate Adventures list, the Member for Monaro John Barilaro has announced.
The lodge is named as the 'Best Hidden Hut and Shelter' and is one of nine NSW-based adventure activities and tourism spots included in the list.
Fifty-eight Australian adventures are included in the book's collection of thrilling travel ideas.
"The Snowy Mountains region offers a huge diversity of exclusive adventure travel experiences and for Illawong Lodge to be recognised by such a world renowned travel publishing organisation as Lonely Planet, is recognition of its world-class quality," Mr Barilaro said.
"I congratulate the owners and operators of Illawong Lodge on achieving this recognition, and hope that it continues to drive visitors to experience everything the Snowy Mountains region has to offer."
Since the 1950s, members of Illawong Ski Tourers have used the Illawong Lodge as a base for cross-country and backcountry skiing and bushwalking. NSW Minister for Tourism George Souris congratulated Illawong Lodge on its success.
"To be chosen ahead of other Australian states in this highly competitive field is a terrific achievement and is a testament to the unique experiences that NSW has to offer visitors," said Mr Souris.
