Zone 7 has Four Districts stretching from Gerringong in the north to Mallacoota just over the Victorian border in the south and extends west as far as Braidwood, Cooma and Jindabyne.
The Patrons Cup Is a Prestigious Annual Cup played for by 16 member teams representing the four Districts in the Zone. This year teams met at Lake Conjola in late June.
South Coast District District (Gerrringong to Ulladulla) defeated ,Monaro District(Cooma to Jindabyne) and Far South Coast District(Mallacoota to Bega ) had a win over the strong Central South Coast District (Bermagui.to Braidwood).
Unfortunately heavy rain stopped play for the Sunday game so the South Coast V Far South Coast game couldn.t be played to determine an overall winner .Aas defending Champions the Far South Coast District were quick to claim the much coveted Inter-District trophy,
Zone 7 Annual General Meeting
Zone 7 had its Annual General meeting at Narooma Bowling Club on Sunday June 16.
Office bearers and committee selected for 2013/14 were:-
President: Geoff Hancock (Sussex Inlet); Vice Presidents: Joe Scorer (Malua Bay) and Peter Schroeder (Cooma); Secretary/Treasurer: Alan Askew (St. Georges Basin); State Councillor: Hilton Sutton (Bermagui); Publicity Officer: Jeff Rudd (Mollymook Beach).
Match: Geoff Hancock (South Coast) Chairman, Bruce Hancock (Central South Coast), Chris Gale (Monaro), Far South Coast member to be nominated. Selection: Chairman Peter Schroeder (Monaro), Scott Mathieson (South Coast), Bruce Hancock (Central South Coast), Far South Coast member to be nominated.
Junior: Joe Scorer (Central South Coast) Junior Coordinator, Max Greedy (South Coast) & James Reynolds (Far South Coast)
Patrons: Buck Deadman, (Central south Coast), Frank Stephens (South Coast), Ross Thoburne (Far South Coast) and Vic Weston (Monaro)
Geoff Hancock paid tribute to two outstanding retiring members in Vice President, Bob Sambrook and Publicity Officer Peter Chamberlin. He thanked them for the many years service they had given to bowls.
The meeting also recognised the distinguished services of long standing members, Joe Scorer and Hilton Sutton, by honouring them both with life membership of the Zone.
Prior to his move to Malua Bay, Joe Scorer did a great deal of work at Leeton Club and was a President of the club for seven years. He also served in the positions President of the Riverina District Bowling Association during the 1990's and Secretary of Zone 8 from 1997 to 1999.
Joe occupied the position of zone 7 secretary's from 2002 until he retired in 2012 and now holds the position of Zone Vice President.
Hilton has been a very active member at Club/District and Zone levels since joining Bermagui in 1993. In his time in the zone he has served in the positions of Club/District & Zone President, Vice President, and match & selections committees.
He has taken a keen Interest in the zone's representative sides and has been the sides' manager for many years.
He served as president of the Zone from 2003 to 2006 and is currently the Zone State Councillor.
President, Geoff Hancock said that life membership was just a small show of gratitude for Joe and Hilton, who had both given so much of their time for the advancement of bowls.
South Coast District Bowling Association Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of the South Coast District Bowling Association Inc. is to be held on Monday August 26 commencing at10.45am at Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen's Club, Junction Street. Nowra.
Zone 7 Bowling Association 2013 Championships
Zone Playoffs Singles and Pairs Saturday August 10 and 11
The Singles and Pairs will be held at Bega Bowling Club,Gipps Street, Bega.
Saturday August 10 has the State Singles, Senior Singles ,& Presidents Reserve Singles
While Sunday August 11 will see State Pairs, Senior Pairs & Presidents Reserve Pairs.
State Triples & Fours Saturday August 17 and Fours August 18
The State Triples & Fours. Will be played at Narooma.
This championship was contested on on Thursday July11.
In a magnificent performance these four young South Coast men played magnificently to win their SemiFinal against - Zone 16's S Noronha, J Hili, D Hayman & N Noronha by a shot to earn a spot in The State Final.
Zone 12 had accounted for Zone 1 - J Bruggy, W Hounslow, Z Cottam and L Jones 29-19 in the other Semi Final.
State Fours Junior Final
Congratulations to the boys on making it through the hard fought preliminary rounds and Semi Final in the fours to make the Final against Zone 12 - J Williams, C Allomes, C McKiernan and D Skinner. In a brilliant exhibition of Bowls Zone 12 snuck home as winners 22-19 Congratulations to all the competitors.
Merimbula's Dylan Cuthbert has had a very good year and it continued when he Zone 7 was runner-up in his section to Dylan Wells (Zone 3)
The Final was won by Dylan Skinner (Zone 12) 3-28 over Corey Wedlock (Zone 14).
Zone 7's Juniors Anthony McKenna and Dylan Cuthberts teamed up with some great bowls to win thier Section in the Pairs.
The Semi Final
Eventual State Champions Amanda Laird & Billy Johnson were in hot form for Zone 9 when winning the Semi against the Zone 7 dynamic duo by 24-15. The other Semi Final was won by Zone 6's Brendan Romeo and Jaison Redman 27 - 15 over Zone 2 Brendan Stacey & Jack Ryan.
The Pairs Final
The Zone 9 powerhouse pairs team continued with their hot form to win the Final against Zone 6 team 17-14.
South Coast District Club Champion of Champions Singles
The Champion of champions brings all Club Champions together to determine the Champion of Champions in the District This years South Coast Champion of Champions is being played from July 13 to 27.
First Round matches
1 Culburras Geoff Steinhour played early for a 31-12 victory over .Gerringongs champion Stephen Pottie.
2 Huskissons Australian Triples Champion skip is their Club champion and he drew the ever present Lake Conjola Champion Scott Mathieson
3 Frank Thomas from Sussex met Currarongs David Badger.
4.Ex Servicemans Tomas Giddings played Darrel Gapes Greenwell Point champion.
5 Bomaderry and South Coast Bowls legend Bob King got a bye in the first round. Mollymook s Glen Dickson defeated former club champion T ony Clarke to win Mollymooks Title.
Glenn also had a bye and went straight to the second round meet Bommaderry 's Bob King.
6 Berry Club champion Mark Power and Nowras Ben Almond also had byes through to the second round where they meet.
Ulladullas Nick King defeated Harry Pearce to be their club champion for the second consecutive year but was out of the Country with his wife Kathy when the Champion of champions was contested.
South Coast District State Triples
The Triples Semi Finals were played at Nowra After rain delayed these two games they were finished in brilliant sunlight on the 7 th July.
The all Culburra Semi Final guaranteed Culburra a start in the Final. It was fought out between Culburras Bruce Fletcher, Geoff Blackshaw and Ian Carre against Clubmates Gary Melluish ,Geofff.Steinhour and Jimmy Hibbert Jim's team won the Semi Final by 3 shots to get the other Finals spot.
The second Semi Final was between Huskisons Tony Crammod, Adam Hart and Peter Bobrige V Lake Conjolas Brad McDougall Ian Smith and Scott Mathieson.Peter Bobrige team accounted for the strong Lake Conkola team by 6 shots to secure the other spot in the Final.
The Triples Final
After Jimmy Hibberts same team had tasted defeat in last years District Triples Final. They werent prepared to be runners up again. They won the 2013 Title from the Bobrige team by 28-20.
The Culburra team will represent South Coast District against Monaro District winners Coomas Geoff Venables, Peter Schroeder & Gordon Cox in the Zone Championships at Malua Bay on August 17 .
Mollymook Beach 2013 Major Singles has just been decided and the champion is Glen Dickson. Glen previously was the 2004 Singles champ before spending a few years at Milton/Ulladulla B.C, returning about a year ago. Glen had a tough, windy match against Tony Clarke, the 2010 Singles champ.
Earlier this year the major Pairs championship was decided with a win to skip Gary McGuire and David Munt. David, about 12 months ago, played at Mt Gambier B.C. It is apparent Mollymook Beach Bowling Clubs management is making the effort to attract bowlers to the Club.
