THE grand piano project (which started mid-2011) is about to become reality, to the delight of many community members who are keen to see the grand piano installed in the Jindabyne Memorial Hall for the enjoyment of all, for many years to come.
Thanks to two past fundraising concerts, donations from the community, sale of keys to individuals and businesses, various sponsorships, and some funding recently pledged, about $14,400 has been raised so far.
After many weeks trying a number of grand pianos in both Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne - the perfect Grand Piano has been found. The total cost of the project (including the grand piano, a piano stool and cover, a riser, plaques, etc ) is estimated at more than $20,000.
The community and local businesses are being asked to help fund the shortfall. Piano keys can be "purchased" for $100 and $150. Major sponsors are also sought. And you may know someone who has a piano stool or a grand piano cover in good condition they are able to donate.
It's possible the grand piano may be purchased and delivered before May, as there is a major fundraising concert scheduled for the first week in May, which requires the use of a grand piano.
This local project will greatly benefit the Snowy region community as it will allow the town to stage a number of cultural events, by inviting artists from around Australia and the world.
All major sponsors will have their names engraved on a commemorative plaque to be displayed in the Jindabyne Memorial Hall.
