Adaminaby Bowling Club held their annual bowls tournament, “”The Trout Triples”“ over the weekend of December 12 and 13. With entries keenly sought after the tournament was quickly filled about 6 weeks prior to the weekend.
As a warm-up for visiting bowlers to get used to the greens, a Chicken Run was held on the Friday evening with a fantastic turn out, filling a green with some fours games having to be played because of huge numbers. A great time was had by all, with mixed teams, and a chance for people to get to meet members of other teams.
On the Saturday morning bowlers arrived and played on the club’s 2nd green for the first time since it was completely re-built Congratulations to our greenkeeper Col Sinclair and all the help given by Ed Potter for a green that was absolutely magic to play on with fantastic comments over the weekend by many visiting players.
At the completion of Saturday, the leader board was tight with 3 teams winning all 3 games, and a couple of others with 2 wins and a draw.
Sunday again gave us perfect weather with bowlers arriving early all keen to bowl. The bowls hotted up with the 3 teams of all wins continuing on their winning ways after the first game, with Ross Russells’ team closing the gap with a huge win of plus 24 shots and Paul Totterdells’ team just coming away with a win on the last end with a 7 shot last end to win by 5. Peter Schroeders team went into the last game ahead of Ross Russells team by 3 shots with Paul Totterdells team in 3rd.
The last games were tight with Paul Totterdells team going down to visitors from Queanbeyan taking them out of the prize money. The Peter Schroeder team then finished their game with a 3 shot win with all eyes then on Ross Russells game with still 3 ends to play. The game was neck and neck and with a beautiful drive by Wayne Lodge of Ross Russells team they seemed to be in the box seat, unfortunately the favour was returned by Glenn in the opposing team. This pushed Ross’ team out of any chance of winning the game.
Winning the tournament with a fantastic score of 5 wins plus 50 shots was the team of Peter Daal, John Humphries and Peter Schroeder, 2nd place went to The Dumbleton couple and D Roberts with 4 wins 1 draw plus 45 shots and coming in third was Mel Storta, Wayne Lodge and Ross Russell with 4 wins 1 loss plus 43 shots.
Adaminaby Bowling Club would really like to thank major sponsors Cooma Ex-Services Club and BCIB Insurance, plus the many other sponsors who have donated to the tournament, without all this support to a small country club the tournament would not be possible. Also a huge thank you to umpire for the weekend, Ed Potter. The major raffle prize of 2 nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at either San Michele Resort Adaminaby or the Bucketts Way Motel in Gloucester was won by the president of Women’s Bowls- Adaminaby, Glenda Daal.
