Sabrina Mower had a stunning win at the annual Bega Spring Horse Show on Sunday when she won Champion Junior Rider under 13 years.
The 12 year old from Jindabyne toppled some highly ranked riders from the South Coast to take out the title. The South Coast has always had a reputation as a very strong equestrian area and a highly competitive show riding community.
Sabrina has been producing some great results over the last twelve months and trains as part of the Snowy Mountains Grammar School (SMGS) Equestrian team.
Tim Dreverman from Snowy Mountains Performance Horses and Les Friend from the Les Friend Riding Academy train the talented year seven student.
Sabrina and her pony Birrali Royal Command -also known as Roy - have become a very competitive team and have qualified for both the Canberra Royal Show and the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2010.
Sabrina and her younger brother Oscar compete at agricultural and horse shows most weekends with the support and guidance of mum Krista and dad Adam.
“Sabrina’s dedication to her riding is to be congratulated,” coach Tim Dreverman said.
“Her efforts are now really paying off - well done. She also had a great showjumping round - riding clear in the 75cm AM7.”
It was a big group of Jindabyne riders who travelled to Bega for the competition. Fellow year seven SMGS student, Aroha Gibb scored her first win in the hack ring when she won Novice Hack on her mount, Ruffled.
Other riders competing from Jindabyne included Hannah Sugerman and Oliver Thompson, Alexandra Poulos, Stacey Gibb, Melissa Golik, Oscar Mower and Lauren and Michele Tomasi.
All the riders who train as part of the SMGS Equestrian team showed their versatility by swapping from the show jumping to the hack rings with ease.
