Riders excel

Riders from the Jindabyne area excelled at the National Capital Horse Show held over the weekend at the Exhibition Park in Canberra.

Twelve-year-old Sabrina Mower continued on her winning way with being sashed Champion Junior rider under 13 years and impressing the crowd at the feature event, the Senior Ridden Challenge. Her pony also won Champion Novice Pony Hack.

This event is held under lights on the Saturday evening and pitches the best riders and their horses in an individual set workout under the scrutiny of three judges.

Riders and horses are assessed on their presentation, confirmation of the horse, manners, ride ability and execution of the task set.

Sabrina was up against some of the best horses and adult riders in Canberra, NSW and Victoria. This glamour event attracts a lot of very experienced riders and highly ranked dressage horses.

More than 30 horses competed in the pressure cooker atmosphere with Sabrina’s polished, calm and precise ride placing her ninth in the top quality field.

Sabrina was the youngest rider competing and her show pony, Birrali Royal Command the smallest horse.

A top 10 finish in this event is a fantastic achievement for this year seven student from Snowy Mountains Grammar School equestrian team and Jindabyne Pony Club.

Other local junior riders with first place finishes included Alexandra Poulos and Ashleigh Keighley and Oscar Mower a 2nd place in his rider class.

Annette Kiemel also successfully competed in the riding events with local Morgan horse breeder, Helga Frolich from Snowy Mountains Morgans taking out Champion and Reserve Champion places with her stallion and mare. Canala Arabian Horses from Jindabyne were also present.
