Thredbo’s Jono Brauer will take to the slopes in Vancouver in the next two weeks to represent Australia at his second Winter Olympics.
He will race Downhill, Super G and Super Combined but has just missed out on skiing all five disciplines - a rarely achieved feat.
His Giant Slalom results were just out of the required top 120 places to secure him a berth for the Winter Olympics.
An injury-plagued lead up to the games has meant that the 29-year-old who grew up racing with Thredbo Ski Racing Club (TSRC) is balancing getting enough quality training with rest and rehabilitation.
Bone bruising in his femur and knee damage has meant that his on snow preparation has been limited but he has opted for quality training runs rather than quantity.
He raced two Super G’s last week in Obersaxen, Switzerland with mixed finishes but with good results for his race fitness.
Brauer and training partner Craig Branch have also had their European training disrupted by financial problems with the Bristish alpine team.
The Australian racers uses the coaching staff from “Snowsport GB” for race preparation and financial problems means that their final pre- Olympic training will be limited.
Brauer and Branch will head to Nakiska in Canada for their final training sessions before competition starts next week.
Jenny Owens has also been cleared to compete in skiercross at Vancouver after recent injuries cast doubt over her fitness. Her family - also based in Jindabyne - will be keenly following her Olympic campaign.
