Jindaybne Soreboars victorious

29 Oct, 2009 09:39 AM
The Jindabyne Soreboars travelled to Tathra on the weekend to take part in the Crabs Golden Oldies Rugby Carnival against 10 other teams.

The Soreboars had a good turnout with 15 players making the trip to the coast. The first game of the day was against the Shoalhaven Shags and was by no means what either team expected. Both teams tried to get the advantage over the other from the start, with strong defence dominating. The Soreboars were able to move the ball up the field and using their secret weapon, Harry Cummins, were able to score. The Shags were next to score to tie the game. With time running out, the call went out for Harry, who again came through with side steps that had to be seen to be believed. This handed the win to the Soreboars.

The next game was against the ACT Vets and was a very close match. Both teams had plenty of opportunities to score, but last minute defence stopped many raids. The Soreboars again came away with the win.

With a two hour break before the last game a few players were starting to feel a bit stiff and getting going again was proving a major hurdle.

The last game was against the Cooma Knackered Brumbies with a few blue Veins players helping them out. This again was a hard fought match. Cooma were first to score with some good back line play. The Soreboars then tried their luck at throwing the ball wide with some great play between Craig “Johno” Johnson who handled three times and Buzz Johnson who eventually put Johno in a gap to score.

Players player for the day went to Gavin Swan, Andrew Both, Brian Marshall, David Farmer, Kelvin Armstrong, Harry Cummins, Buzz Johnson, Steve Cronan, Rob Unwin, Craig Johnson, Richard Boys, Shane King , Steven “Junior” Grey, Mal Cooper and Terry Boyton.

The Soreboars showed they have what it takes to play at these games, finishing the day with two wins and a draw.

Any players interested for future matches please contact Richard Boys as this is hopefully just the start for The Soreboars. We don’t stop playing because we grow old.....we grow old because we stop playing.
