Coffeys won the toss and sent Berridale in to bat on yet another slow Rotary Oval and dry wicket. Another poor start for Berridale, losing Hayes to a rising Sommerville (1/12) ball catching the inform batsman’s gloves.
After the all important five overs Berridale were struggling at 2/16. Hearn (39) and Taylor (29) set about resurrecting the Berridale innings. The pair batted well against some good bowling picking up plenty of short sharp singles often with a little risk involved with the in-close Coffeys fielders failing to hit the stumps on a few occasions.
With the score on 2/84 with five overs remaining Berridale were in a great position to mount a late-over run spree. However Jack Johnson (3/15) removed both batsman with consecutive balls. Berridale’s middle order failed to capitalise in the last few overs and the team posted a respectable 7/104.
Coffeys got off to a flyer with young batsman Deveraux (31) and Moxham (27) taking a paticular liking against the Berridale quicks. J Riley (1/30) got the breakthrough bringing S Williams (34*) to the crease.
With Adam Hayes (1/34) taking the ball with a bit of spin on offer the Coffeys bats found the spinner quite difficult to put away with Hayes bowling Moxham and then had two catches put down including S Williams on zero. Berridale seemed to drop their heads and then a few more catches as Sommerville (11) and Williams picked off the runs with three overs to spare.
