Mountains to beach success

11 Mar, 2010 11:33 AM
Mountain bikes were aptly named last week when riders from the DT Swiss Mountains to Beach event hit the high country in the first stages of the race.

The race ran from February 28 through until March 5 and took in some of the most spectacular mountain and coastal rides available in Australia.

The first stage started at Thredbo from the top of the Kosciuszko Express chairlift to a finish in Thredbo village.

The next day took in Lake Crackenback Resort and the tracks around the valley, followed by a Skitube ride to Perisher to start the rest day's action.

Riders then faced a long haul from Perisher to Guthega and then on toward Buckenderra Resort on the shores of Lake Eucumbene.

Riders followed the fire trails and dirt road to the Snowy River and across the Snowy Plains. They then attacked Nimmo Hill and down into Lake Eucumbene.

Racers then competed on some laps courses around Buckenderra before heading toward Cooma for a rest stop at the end of Stage 7.

After a well earned rest in Cooma, they headed out for the big downhill 130km run down Brown Mountain to Bermagui.
