Jindabyne has been named one of the 100 top towns to visit by Australian Traveller magazine.
Coming in at number 32, it's easily beaten south coast towns such as Merimbula which came in at 54 and even the delightful National Trust village of Tilba Tilba at number 40.
Sitting in the top spot is Yamba, on the northern NSW coast, followed by Esperance in WA.
The team that compiled the selection at Australian Traveller, said that Jindabyne was the only one of 100 Best Towns to have been relocated and recreated in its entirety, and as such the story of Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains was an unusual one.
They point to the decision to release rainbow trout into the Snowy River in 1894 as helping shape Jindabyne into the popular fishing destination it is today.
"Jindabyne stands as an example of the diversity of environments in Australia," the team has said.
They also point to its proximity to Thredbo and Perisher Blue making it an attractive base for skiing holidays, as well as bushwalking, whitewater rafting, canoeing, horse riding, mountain biking and kayaking year round.
The poll is yet another one pointing to the attractiveness of the town and highlighting that it is not just about winter tourism.
