Parents and guardians are reminded that as of Monday new national child restraint laws have been enacted.
Member for Monaro Steve Whan said this week
“The safety of children in vehicles is of vital importance and an education campaign has started to remind parents about the new laws.”
The new laws are
1. Children younger than six months must be secured in rearward facing restraints.
2. Children between six months and four years must be secured in either a rear or forward facing restraint.
3. Children between four and seven years must be secured in forward facing child restraint or booster seat.
4. Children younger than four years cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows,
5. Children between four years and less than seven years cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows, unless all other back seats are occupied by children younger than seven years in a child restraint or booster seat.
The RTA can be contacted on 132213 for advice on fitting or names or your closest authorised fitter.
Dalgety mother of two, Jackie Fenton chose to have her child restraints fitted by NRMA in Jindabyne.
“They were fantastic. They fitted them quickly and were really helpful.
It gives me peace of mind to know that they are secure and safe.”
