Spring snow dump

08 Oct, 2009 04:55 PM
The blossoms may be out, and the ski season officially over, but Mother Nature proved she had other ideas yesterday.

Like much of the Monaro and the South East region, Jindabyne was hit with one of its biggest late-season snowstorms in years.

The weather caused multiple disruptions in the area with reports of some residents not being able to leave their homes.

Traffic was also affected, with all roads south of Cooma temporarily closed.

Police responded to a number of minor accidents in the area. Roads between Bombala and Cooma remained open, but travel was not advised.

There were disruptions on the Monaro highway between Cooma and Nimmitabel and the Brown Mountain.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported that 30cm of snow fell over Thredbo village while the top of Mount Kozciusko received 45cm.

There were also numerous power outages in the area, with Country Energy reporting at least seven lines down.

Temperatures began to rise and snow began to melt as the storm left the area fairly quickly, moving north.
