Residents and businesses around the Snowy Mountains rejoiced this week when it was announced that air services were being restored.
Aeropelican Air Services and Snowy Mountains Airport have negotiated a deal that will see regular flights between Sydney and Cooma. It has been two years since commercial flights ceased to the airport.
It is planned there will be three daily return flights to Sydney during the winter months and two return flights on Saturdays.
Aeropelican have also announced that they are in the process of scheduling an all year round service. Local tourism operators are thrilled with the announcement.
The director of Quality Resort Horizons in Jindabyne, Anne Foster, said it was fantastic news and very positive for the area.
“It will help everyone - both from a tourism perspective and also our needs to travel to Sydney for business.
It will also be good to see the airport being used - not just sitting there empty,” Ms Foster said.
Perisher’s Neil Thew told the Summit Sun that the announcement was very positive for the area.
“It is great for Perisher. We anticipate lots of people to take advantage,” Mr Thew said.
Flights will commence on 11 June 2010 and bookings can be made from March 9.
