THE 66th "Show us your Hat" Dalgety Show was a great success despite the threat of rain.
A short sharp shower of rain at about 11am had the show committee holding their collective breaths, but the rain cleared, the sun came out and so did the people, more than 1,500 of them.
Show Society president, Richard Wallace was very happy with the 66th Dalgety Show.
Mr Wallace said that although rain in Berridale and Jindabyne kept people away until lunchtime, after lunch the crowd started to arrive at the show.
"What was particularly pleasing was the beautiful state of the showground, which went towards ensuring the show was a success," Mr Wallace said.
He said beef cattle numbers were up and the quality was excellent.
"One of the highlights of the show was the official opening by
90-year-old Charlie Roberson and the sashing of the Dalgety Show Rural Achiever, Tim Dreverman by Member for Monaro, Steve Whan."
Mr Whan also announced that he had a strong lead on the way of controlling wingless grasshoppers in this area, which should make a number of farmers very happy, Mr Wallace said.
"The refurbished pavilion looked great and the quantity and quality of the exhibits was outstanding," the president said.
"A real eye catcher was the British Colonial Safari Hut made by the children from Jindabyne Central School.
"Attendances at the show were on a par with other years despite the threat of rain," Mr Wallace said.
"We were so lucky; it didn't really start raining until 6pm when nearly everyone had packed up and started for home.
