More than 300 people squeezed and sweltered in the Memorial Hall in Jindabyne on Saturday afternoon to watch the annual Monaro Dance Concert.
Ninety dancers from across the region wowed the audience with their performances.
“Last year it snowed, so we were prepared for anything this year, with lots of open doors and cold drinks in the canteen”, said Miss Jenny.
The concert opened with ballet segments based on the ballet Copellia and continued with fast tap routines, funky hip hop numbers, creative contemporary pieces and a musical theatre extract from A Chorus Line.
Jindabyne’s Bradley Cox sang two songs - one of which was accompanied by dancer Jemanine Cooper. The dance teachers joined in the performance with a racy “Chicago” number,
“We like to dance just as much as the kids, it’s our passion” said Miss Jenny.
Monaro Dance “show group” performed several numbers with Sheridan Colin and Brooke Kennedy from Jindabyne being part of the prestigious group this year.
Awards went to the following students: Snowprint Bookshop Award of encouragement: Ruby Smith; Jnr encouragement trophy: Celia Dalby; Snr encouragement trophy: Kiarna Nikora; Tap trophy: Georgia Alexander; Ballet trophy: Joshua Matthes; Musical theatre/jazz trophy: Sheridan Colin; Jnr Jazz trophy: Rebecca Matthes; Scholarship award: Rani Bergin
Monaro Dance “Dancer of the Year”: Michaela Molloy.
“It is always so hard to choose awards and trophies as Miss Holly (Ballet and Musical Theatre teacher) and myself would love to give every student an encouragement award. They all danced so well, but more to the point had a fantastic time,” Miss Jenny said.
Dancers from Monaro dance will be entertaining this weekend at the Jindabyne Central School 125th Celebration day and also at the Jindabyne OOSCH Christmas party and at Carols in the Park in Jindabyne on December 13.
