Jindabyne’s Ramone Cooper has defied the odds and been cleared to compete next week at Vancouver for the Winter Olympics.
The 21-year-old mogul skier’s dream looked shattered only three weeks ago when a fall in training in Utah did massive damage to his knee.
He arrived in Vancouver on Sunday after an intensive rehabilitation program with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra and fitness tests conducted by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
He has moved into the Athlete’s Village to a view of the now infamous Boxing Kangaroo flag covering his balcony.
Cooper will now continue his intense rehabilitation programme until he competes next Monday morning - Australian time - in the men’s moguls.
Dad Steve Cooper - who is deputy principal at Jindabyne Central School said he delivered (to Ramone) the ‘Nothing is Impossible’ booklet put together and signed from the students and staff at Jindabyne Central School.”
Ramone Cooper will also be talking directly to students at his old primary school Cooma North Public School next week after he competes.
