History lovers will appreciate a new book by Jindabyne’s John Davis titled: A history of the early development of Perisher-Smiggins.
The book is part historical account, part memoir, and marks the culmination of six years of work by Pat and John Davis. The 154-page tome was released on April 10 which was also their 56th wedding anniversary.
Mr Davis plans to distribute the book to historical societies, libraries and other repositories and recorders of history. The Davises self-funded their publication, which they hope will bring back memories, uncover mysteries and even “settle a few arguments”.
Mr and Mrs Davis discovered Perisher-Smiggins in the 1950s and remember hiring skis from Paddy Pallin, the gentleman himself, in Sydney, and carrying them along Newtown’s busy King Street.
The have painstakingly scanned photographs and included nostalgic advertising material to create a comprehensive account of their memories of people, places and snow-filled adventures.
Those interested in reading John and Pat Davis’ account of Perisher-Smiggins’ burgeoning ski industry should register their interest with the Cooma Library or contact the Summit Sun to arrange a gander.
