On Saturday during the Lake Jindabyne Irish Festival another fundraising event for the Jindabyne Grand Piano was held at the Jindabyne Cinemas with the screening of “The Pipe”, an award winning Irish documentary.
About $210 was raised on the day, the proceeds going towards the purchase of the grand piano for the Jindabyne Hall. All the other monies raised by the Irish Festival over the weekend are going to charities including Father Chris Riley’s Youth of the Street, Breast Cancer Network Australia and the Jindabyne Rural Fire Service.
A big ‘thank you’ must again go to Glenys Huggett from the Jindabyne Cinema for her continued support of the Grand Piano project and to Harry Cummins, President of the Lake Jindabyne Irish Festival for organising the screening.
More than $6,600 has so far been raised for the Grand Piano project with more money pledged but a lot more funding is needed to reach the $20,000 plus target and another musical event is being considered before winter.
Piano keys are still offered for sale, priced at $100, $150 and $500 for ‘Middle C’. Over 35 piano keys have been sold to date and in the coming weeks, businesses and individuals will be contacted and asked for their contribution. People/businesses who donate $200 and more will see their names featured on a plaque which will hang at the hall in the future.
Also needed are people with a ‘musical’ vision for Jindabyne who can volunteer their time and ideas to help this worthwhile community project come to fruition.
The acquisition of a Grand Piano for the Jindabyne Hall will be an asset for shire and not only benefit all the local performing arts students and teachers, but also attract quality performers from interstate and overseas.
To purchase piano keys or if you can help in any way, please contact Antoinette on 0428 118 908 or Carole on 0412 884 304.
