It was fantastic. The 18th annual Thredbo Blues Festival is being described as one of the best ever with 20 bands and performers playing to packed houses over three days last weekend.
The event run by Thredbo Chamber of Commerce boosts summer tourism and this year saw a massive audience of 1800 converge at Thredbo for the Festival. There were 59 gigs in total across 17 packed venues that saw people up on their feet dancing and the poolside bar pumping all weekend.
One of the standout performers over the weekend was Harry Brus. He was amazing said Reggae Elliss, owner of Rip Curl Thredbo. “Regular performer Jeff Lange was also a standout. The muso’s pick for best player was young NSW guitarist Joe Robinson, who was accompanied by bass player Marcus Hill and drummer Loren Clarke both from Nashville. They had to fly home the next morning” he said.
Sunday night saw an impromptu jam session in the Schuss Bar with Jeff Lange, Harry Brus and headliner Kevin Borich and this was followed by an all-in gig with almost all 20 performers in the Keller Bar concluding the festival with one amazing finale gig.
Local Jindabyne band The Dukes also made an appearance playing poolside and in the Village Square. The weather played its part too giving fabulous sunshine over the weekend, except for slight rain on Sunday afternoon, which didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
There are many blues festivals across Australia throughout the year but the Thredbo Blues Festival every January is a favourite of musicians.
“The performers like the location, the gigs are easily accessible and set in a great environment. And everyone has a really good time,” Mr Elliss said.
