The Yamaha Snowy Mountains Trout Festival got under way last Friday night. Now in its 36th year the week long competition drew more than 600 starters.
The weekend saw some great results with some big winners already in the first days of competition.
The secret weight winners on Day 1 were Eustice Tonna, who weighed in at Buckenderra and Mark Wright at Braemar. Day two winners were K. Egan at Angler’s Reach and Graham Berkley. All secret weight winners win $750.
Organisers said you did not have to catch the biggest fish to be in the running to win the $1,500 up for grabs in the daily secret weight winner’s prize.
The biggest fish caught on the first few days was a brown trout weighing 3270g caught by David Scarlett. The largest Rainbow Fish caught so far weighed in at 17.95kg.
Richard and Tara Burton from Snowy Mountains Sports were thrilled with the entries and the hot weather.
“There are 50 to 60 boats out there at any one time – it’s busy out there in the mornings,” Mrs Burton said.
The festival runs until tomorrow when there will be a presentation at Berridale Community Hall at 2pm.
There have been close to $10,000 in prizes up for grabs this year. This included a boat, motor and trailer prize of $7,000.
